The Super Amazing Cleaning Scrub

The other day I was thinking about cleaning my bathroom and looked at my cleaning supplies and really wondered how I could do it "greener" in other words less toxic. I knew I wanted to use my Lemon essential oil but wanted to really make my hard surfaces sparkle and shine. So went to my laundry room and started playing with products. Here is what I came up with. Now I know you are saying that Borax is for the laundry, but it really is a multi-purpose cleaner...try it.

Don't ask me how this works...I'm not a chemist.

Super Amazing Scrub
1/2 cup Borax
1/2 cup Baking Soda
10 drops of Lemon essential oil or whatever you like...orange would be good too

To use I just sprinkled a little bit of it on my sink, tub, toilet bowl and scrubbed. I could probably mix a tablespoon with a gallon of warm water and mop my floor with this mixture also. Maybe I'll take this to the kitchen and clean in there also.

Benefits
  • Nice clean scent that didn't take my breath away from the fumes
  • Economical, cost pennies to make
  • Non Toxic

As I stated above I used Lemon as it cuts through grease and grime really well and thought it would really add to the cleaning power of the mix. If I wanted something that had a more disinfectant type benefit then I would use the Protective blend. It would really be good in all rooms as it does have positive effects on the immune system and I'm all about boosting that.

Have fun cleaning and hoping for Spring to really be here.

Cleaning Doesn't Have to be Toxic

When I first started my explorations with using a high quality essential oil in September of 2012 I didn't think it would grow to such an extent in my life. The oils have taken over not only our heath issues but our personal care and household cleaning too. If you are on Pinterest you probably have seen all these pins on how to make your own soap, lotion, ointments, bath salts, laundry soap and general cleaning products. If you want to see a few of those you are welcome to follow my pin board http://pinterest.com/djames5/essential-oils-for-living/.

Today my wonder cleaning potion is Baking soda. I have found so many things that use baking soda that I now buy the giant bag you can get at that warehouse store.
I'm just discovering the wonders of Dr. Bronners Castile soap, so I'll have to do another post on all the wonders of that natural product but if you want to check out Hot Mess House's post she has some great ideas on how to use it.

I made up this recipe yesterday and then again today to clean the outside of our garage siding as it had that green moss growing on it along with some black stuff that I really didn't want to think about. I started out cleaning the siding with a product that had bleach and TSP in it but the smell and drippage on my skin and clothes (yes I did wear gloves and yes now my clothes have bleach marks) just did me in. I knew there had to be another way to clean that was safer for me, the surrounding grounds and the dogs. Just that morning I had cleaned the toilet bowl with some baking soda and castile soap and thought why not beef it up a bit with the hydrogen peroxide and try it on the green grunge, hence this was born. So use this to clean any household hard surface inside and out.

Super Cleaner
2 cups Baking Soda
1 cup Hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup Castile soap
1/2 cup water
10 drops Lemon essential oil or any scent you like but the lemon helps the cleaning power.

Mix up in a plastic or glass container, grab a sponge or brush and start cleaning. If mixture starts to get to dry or pasty just add a bit more water. Be sure to rinse well with clean water. You may cut the recipe in half for a smaller amount.

Oh, and I have no more green slim or black grime on my garage siding and no I will not come over and clean your siding.
